My career in veterinary care began after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998. After years of veterinary technician experience in the Madison area, I joined Northside Animal Hospital with great enthusiasm in February, 2007. While all aspects of veterinary practice are important to me, personal points of interest include preventative medicine, senior care, and spay/neuter education. My work with animals continues at home with my five cats, two dogs, and frequent foster kittens. When I have a little spare time, I enjoy volleyball, horseback riding, martial arts, and a good amount of TV. I am thrilled to be part of a progressive, caring team and feel truly fortunate to work in a field I am passionate about.

I joined the Northside Animal Hospital in September, 2008, after having moved to Madison’s north side earlier in the year. I graduated from Purdue University in 2003 where I studied wildlife ecology, learned basic taxidermy, and worked with graduate students on studies of tiger salamanders and Downy Woodpeckers. After college, I worked in environmental education and wildlife health before transitioning to companion animal care. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, birding, and snuggling with my cats Max and Taz.

I started at Northside Animal Hospital to fill in for an employee on parental leave and never left! I have been a technician for ten years starting in emergency work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I enjoy helping patients at Northside achieve not only physical health, but emotional health as well. I have extensive knowledge of dog behavior, and I am a trainer in both agility and obedience. I am also the director of an all breed rescue in Madison called Madison Mutts. I am a community advocate for homeless dogs and cats sometimes known as the “Kevin Bacon” of Madison! I live with my partner, Adam, in Madison along with our menagerie of rescued dogs and cats. Although dogs are my real passion, my other activities and interests include: politics, dancing hip-hop, road trips, going out to eat for bad food, and of course, sarcasm and humor.

Since the beginning of my adult life, I have tried on several occupations ranging from customer service to accounting. It wasn't until I started working part-time at a local boarding kennel and absolutely loving it that I found a good fit. I decided to go back to school to make animals and their health an even bigger part of my life. I graduated from Madison Area Technical College (now Madison College) with an Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology in May, 2010, and was certified by the State of Wisconsin as a Veterinary Technician in the summer of 2010. My favorite part of working in veterinary medicine is getting to know each patient and client. Witnessing the bond between pets and their people is very special. I really enjoy watching pets grow from energetic youngsters into loyal, mature companions. In my free time, I play clarinet with the Madison Municipal Band, spend time reading and watching movies, and enjoy time with my family, friends, and my two dogs, Baxter, a German Shorthaired Pointer and Parker, an Australian Cattle Dog mix.

The best parts of veterinary medicine for me are working with clients and their animals, clinical pathology, and surgery. After graduating from Knox College with a degree in Studio Art, I attended MATC to earn my Veterinary Technician degree. In 2006, I graduated and became certified by the State of Wisconsin as a veterinary technician. I enjoy spending time with my animals: dogs, Chauncy and Kodi, and cats, Stella and Skeletor. During my time off, I enjoy reading, hiking, creating art, canoeing and spending time with Chad and my animals.

As a long time resident of Madison’s Northside, I watched with anticipation as Dr. Brooks prepared to open Northside Animal Hospital in February of 2006. I joined the staff here in February of 2007. I have a background in reception, accounting, and office management. That experience along with my love of animals and my enjoyment of our clients and their pets make this a great place for me to work. When not working, I enjoy my three Birman cats: Bentley, Tristan, and Siegfried, gardening, and spending time with my husband flying our small airplane and attending Renaissance Faires.

I love coming to Northside Animal Hospital! Meeting our clients and their pets is one of the greatest benefits of my work here. In my life away from Northside, I am an elementary teacher and part-time salesperson at the Dane County Farmers Market. I live on Madison’s great Northside with a three-legged chocolate lab and three cats. My interests and pastimes are varied and many: animals, gardening, origami, travel, cooking, reading, music, theatre…to name a few.

I have been working to keep Northside Animal Hospital sparkling clean since the summer of 2006. You may see me with my Goodwill job coach on Thursday afternoons. Visiting the clinic cats Ozzy, Heidi, and Norah, and seeing everyone at the clinic really makes my day. In my spare time I like to dance and watch football – especially the Badgers! In the future I would like to work as a sign language interpreter or go to school to work in the veterinary field.
